SO THIS IS WHERE WE ARE GOING FOR 2 YEARS

So if you look at the map along the red dotted line showing the placement of the equator you will see where we are going.
 Slightly to the right side of the picture is a small landlocked country called Uganda  .  There is a town called "Jinja" just at the intersection of the tributary of the Nile and the top of Lake Victoria, right there on the Equator.

That is where we will be living!

"Uganda occupies the fertile prime real estate between the 2 branches of the Great Rift Valley, the enormous rip in the continent that extends from the Red Sea to Mozambique, creating the familiar lakes and mountains of Central and East Africa.

A land-locked country lying on the equator, Uganda - although bordered by many mountain ranges - actually has a fairly flat topography and much of the country lies at over 1000 metres above sea level.

Its western border with the DRC and Rwanda are dominated by rugged, forested mountains - and stunning wildlife. The Bwindi and Mgahinga National Parks are home to Uganda's mountain gorillas - and are the places to go gorilla trekking - while the lowland forest of Kibale is famous for its chimpanzee tracking.

Also in the region are Uganda's 2 big game parks - the Queen Elizabeth and Murchison Falls National Parks - where the vegetation is predominantly savannah woodland.

The fertile agricultural lands of the Lake Victoria Basin dominate the south-eastern corner of the country, home to the capital of Kampala and the source of the Victoria Nile, and Uganda shares a long and mountainous eastern border with Kenya.

Things change completely in the north of Uganda where a semi-desert environment signals its proximity to Sudan, with which it shares a wild northern border."  (This was swiped off some African website...)

HERE IS THE MAP OF THE MISSION I PULLED OFF THEIR WEBSITE;
HERE IS A CLOSE UP OF THE AREA WITH NO MARKINGS;

 So if you are going to go "gorilla watching", come over and visit us!

Wow! Thats the best history lesson I've had on any country in Africa. Congratulations, it sounds both exciting and scary! We wish you all the best!
