RANDOM MUSINGS AROUND TOWN

The girls have a lot of fun things they
like to do with their hair

How do their mothers get them to sit still so long?

Ouch

But VERY PRETTY
These kids couldn't resist dancing on the sidelines at Michaels graduation party
The Elders had been out cleaning the church on Saturday morning.  No easy feat in all this dust
Commerce continues at the market even in the hot sun

Delivery service - out working hard with the wheel barrow
Baby girl - with her mother Mercy.  Teresa Terri Tucker was born Feb 2nd, and became my namesake because her parents were so glad she was "born in the covenant".  I helped them get to the temple last November.  This little one has two older brothers
African Women at work

One thing we notice quite often is how beautifully the women like to dress even though they are just going to walk down the dusty road
These are bags of charcoal.  They make their own charcoal out of the hard woods in the forest.  Everything is cooked in a pot using the charcoal.  These bags are huge probably they weigh 100 or more pounds.  The price fluctuates, but right now is about $40 a bag.  That's a lot for here.  The poorest people will collect their own wood and make their own charcoal.  The government has recently begun programs to plant forests of pinetrees to save all the hard wood trees that take so much longer to grow

Well here are the Ugandan police.  I have no idea what they do except drive around in the back of a truck.
Peek-a-boo

Oh it's a person!  He is probably selling the baskets which will be used for food or wood storage
Rock didn't know until we got there that he was the guest speaker at Michaels graduation!
Another picture of little Miss Tucker.  I had to buy this cute dress for her and the headband was sent to me by one of my kids.
ok so this is a picture of a woman with a table on her head walking around downtown.  They don't drive station wagons, you just have to carry your furniture.  (I wish it wasn't so fuzzy.  Ya know sometimes as I am driving by in the car so fast my camera gets confused on what it was supposed to focus on)
All the babies get a free ride - never seen a stroller here

If the dumpster gets too full you can just throw a match at it

People are always going somewhere
It's a hot job selling Matokee all day long.  Those things are very heavy also.
I love the picturesque scenery here everywhere you look!  Lots of people sit at the side of the road to rest or just hang out
Just a normal day on the sidewalk downtown.  Not many people have jobs, they just try to sell little trinkets or food.  A lot just hang out
Here are the Elders on the long dusty lonely road.
Just a work day.  The older women all wear this style of dress - oodles of fabric and makes a cute little figure look quite drab and fat.  It is really too hot to wear it, but oh well, it's the style
trying to weave my car around all the busy people
often we see a group of men sitting around playing dice games - Bunco?  I don't know but often they also have a little booze to go along with it
waiting for customers can get really exhausting

The signs are always so nice.  You certainly would want to go to the Honesty pub

Kids are always going somewhere.  Usually looking for food
Magazine sales
This is one of the most common sights you will see here.
Families share the load - maybe they are "shifting".  ( If they are "moving" it means they are just walking about.  But when they "move" (shift) from one place (home) where they "stay" to another place to stay it is called: "shifting"...clear as mud?
This is a very common sight also.  It is very hard to pedal a load this heavy going uphill on a bike with no gear shifts

So of course they have to walk the bike
Young Single Adult Activity - we are doing scripture chase.  No one brought their scriptures but I am not kidding you, some of them must have the scriptures memorized because they did very well.

YSA scripture chase

talking it over.  They actually got in a very heated argument about thinking I wasn't scoring right - they wanted to change my rules so they would win of course.
going for the worlds record on heavy load

Looking for customers - Look what a beautiful picture this is and it is totally unplanned, that is really the way I found them.  I didn't pick out their clothes which will be hard for any of my children to believe.
They can do everything with their hair

Cute little girls

Or just shave it off and they are still cute

very pretty
transfer dinner with the Jinja Elders

we played Wheel of Fortune with scriptures and Sister Crayk was Vanna

E Ballstaedt trying to set up a group picture
E Crayk trying to explain something to Elder C

wow we look tired and old

Zone Conference

Muffins and juice when they get there.  Then I fix lunch for later

We get the AP's when we have zone Conference
These are the only Sisters we have in Jinja District

They are always so happy to see Pres J

And they are even happy to be with general authorities

getting together waiting for the arrival of the President
The Sister 's asked E Ballstaedt if they could take his picture and tell everyone that he is really Pres Eyring.  Here they are pretending.

our Jinja Zone
I love these pictures
someone was reading their bible but it got left in the rain I guess

I seldom see toys so I was surprised that the teddy got washed
typical day in the life of a taxi around here.  I don't think anyone got killed.  The boda was on the other side of the taxi and was smashed.  The Taxi drivers are very crazy
The spider webs are huge around here
monkey is hiding from me
Red tail monkey
Finally I found Payless shoes.  All these are used shoes, but many have new soles put on them.  Some are really cute actually.  I was glad to find this place
Yes I know it says glasses, but it really means is that they sell glass, not glasses for your eyes
If you want a fresh goat meal, here it is at the butcher shop, just sitting on the counter all day in the sun
