I can never get over all the commotion on the streets all the time |
Elder Renlund (Area Authority President) came to visit for Zone Conference. All our wonderful Elders were able to shake his hands. Also our two Sisters! |
Our missionaries sure love Pres J. He sure loves them! |
TRANSFERS Everyone pile in the van to go get your new comps! |
There are many alternatives to Costco here. This is one example |
This market goes all the way around the block. This is just the front sidewalk |
If you look close, all the way down the sidewalk is the "sidewalk sale" I guess they call it |
More shopping...It looks like a lot of stuff but there is really not much variety |
Power out again. We only have power about 6 to 12 hours a day. Sometimes not at all |
These are the ugliest birds I have ever seen. They love garbage and they are pretty big. You really don't want to stand under a tree around here. |
We had some dancers from the Ocholi tribe dancing for us at their Rec Center. They were great. The Ochili tribe originates in the Northern part of Uganda |
No this isn't a stream of lovely red water. It is the middle of the road after the rain. The red mud is everywhere here. |
Oh whoops duplicate of Ling Lings |
There are some lovely plants here. However, the soil is so alkaline here that the plants do not really have much of an odor. |
Our great Elders |
Lined up ready to receive a General Authority |
See how nice they look. Elder and Sister Renlund went though the line to shake all their hands and meet them |
It was great to have him here |
Oh more shopping - this is just a normal downtown sidewalk |
This is how we buy our eggs. I have no idea how long they sit here in the heat. We only get brown eggs and the yolks are quite light |
Egg market |
This is where you buy your mattress, right off the street. Just pick your favorite color |
Oh they love Pres J |
They love Pres and Sister J |
Okay dumb pic but I call the power company so often to complain that they finally just sent someone out. I had to document that there are actually repairmen here. They are talking to our guard Alex |
This is such a typical sight but I am always amazed |
Mary always looks so Regal in clothes she makes herself |
Here is Patricia in the pink dress that my grandkids sent her |
These four families traveled to So. Africa last week to get sealed in the temple. We are so grateful for the General Patron assistance fund so they could have that blessing in their lives |
Ok Mary is just an amazing woman. I want her to be my fashion advisor. She is the District RS president. She will be going to the temple in two weeks. Her husband is not a member |
This is us with Mary, an Elder, and Mary's Sister Kathryn. Kathryn was called as the primary president in Njeru the week after she was baptized and she does a great job |
These boys from Mpumedde are getting to be our personal fan club |
Sam's family. His wife was still at work. We are trying to fellowship them back to activation |
You just have to try and get a ride when you can |
This shows how fun it is to drive here. This is what it is like in front of the car as we drive along the road....not too many obstacles today...Oh, I haven't even shown you the pot holes yet |
Along the road |
The river valleys as you drive out in the villages are everywhere, and often cover the road with water. There are many mosquito factories out there too |
A view of the countryside |
I missed the picture, but you often see a group of men sitting around gambling and playing a game of dice or something. |
The children are always curious when they see "manzugos" They don't even realize how picturesque they look as they sit on the side of the road |
This little guy made his own bow and arrow |
more dancing |
Sister Renlund with our District Primary President Emily (R to L) District YW president Winnie, and District RS president Mary. We had a great training |

Delightful pictures! I think the red dirt would bother me more than the power outages all the time. . .but it might be a toss up. Glad you still have a "Costco", do they give samples? Ha!
Hi, I'm Sister Simmons (a Hispanic service missionary). I jsut want you to know I just LOVE your blog and check it all the time. You take the best pictures of daily life in Africa.
I also know the Renlunds - Ruth was a law partner of my husband. And I follow her blog as well, so it was great to see the two blogs intersect. You are an amazing woman to learn how to cook for the multitudes in a foreign country. The picture of Elder B washing dishes in the tub was priceless.
It's always exciting to have a General Authority come! You have some interesting birds and plants there. You are having such an amazing experience, thanks for sharing it with us! Mckay and Joel didn't run the race on Thanksgiving because they were playing football with all the Ballstaedt boys.
