LIFE IN JINJA

We call her "Elder Shipley's girlfriend" because she was always stalking him.  He let us keep her when he left.  She is the official Jinja beggar, and we always keep a few coins in our car for her.  Every time I open my car door she is magically there!  Mental health care isn't always available here.
If you have a piece of land, you can have a business.  I can't remember what these things are called, but everyone loves them.  It's a Chapata, (like a fried tortilla) and you wrap your scrambled eggs in it. The dough is the little white balls which they will roll out and cook when you order it, then they fill it with scrambled eggs and other stuff. They cost about 3,000 to 5,000 shillings, which is about ...I don't know I guess 2 dollars.  He is the chef, and the restaurant is on the driveway of the home

There is even seating here at the restaurant...right on the driveway.
With the Harris's at the Rain Forrest.  They have a wonderful restaurant and lodge in the middle of the very thick forest

At the rain forrest lodge

I don't know if you can see the beautiful trees surrounding it.  While we were there it started raining very hard

oh, the stairs again

well, if you turn your head hard left, you can see this ficus tree.  It must be about 100 ft high
Sunday night Book of Mormon class at a member's home in Iganga

Aristotle is very interested in reading the Book of Mormon

Mom trying to get Nephi to smile.  Iganga is a group, not a branch yet.  This is Sister Tucker with her two little boys.  The father is teaching the class
At our Self-Employment class.  We had them working together trying to work out their  business plan.  The class is made up of the Branch Presidents, the District President and some of the District Auxiliary leaders
We continue to be amazed how hard the women work
This was Elder Harris, but I couldn't resist how darling it was
Most of our baptisms are done in the dumpsters

A few weeks ago there were 32 people baptized in Busia.  We don't even have a branch there yet.  The baptisms happened in Lake Victoria

It was a beautiful day

A full day of baptisms
Okay, the babies here are so darn cute....

We're still shopping at the market.  We love the produce

At the market

These large bananas are one of the staple foods.  They cook it and call it Matokee.  then they put G-nut sauce over the top of it, which is kind of like purple peanut butter. We probably won't be eating a lot of it here.
Delivery comes in many ways
President Tucker teaching our Book of Mormon class in Iganga.  He and his family are planning to go to the temple in a few months
